The important thing to understand about Orfi marriage is that it absolutely is NOT a legal document recognized by the Egyptian government. In fact, in almost all cases, it isnt worth the paper it is printed on, even when drawn up by an attorney!
This contract is, in fact, a "Civil marriage or Common law Marriage known in Egypt as Orfi Marriage. It is a Legal Binding Contract, and so should be written up and discussed at a Trusted Lawyers Office, and requires Only Id, and 2 Witnesses.
An Orfi is a legal document, in particular between a Western woman and an Egyptian man, agreeing to get married without any legal and binding rights attached. The man “proposes” in front of two witnesses and pays the lawyer, in effect paying to get the document issued, and that's it.
The only legal marriage for foreigners in Egypt is a civil ceremony performed at the local marriage court, which is in accordance with Islamic practice. Persons wishing a religious ceremony may arrange for one separately, but it is the civil ceremony that establishes the legal marriage.
According to Egyptian law a Muslim man can marry a woman who is Muslim, Jewish or Christian. A Muslim woman on the other hand can only marry a man who is Muslim. At the marriage ceremony (and in the marriage contract) the sum of the financial gift by the husband to his wife in case of divorce or death is determined.
